on this day, in particular, i like to go through my box. i keep a collection of cards. every card anyone has ever given me since i was fifteen (or so), i have it.
i keep everything from birthdays to anniversaries to notes from college to baby showers to wedding showers to homemade ones from the kids to "just because" cards. every now and again, i take my stash of current cards and add them to my box.
i love pulling out old cards and reading them. it's one of those little things that i think i will only take a few minutes, and i end up enthralled for hours. somehow those cards and notes tucked away are a great way to remember...the joy, the love, the excitement, and the peace shared by friends and family from those moments in time.
today, i found the perfect card towards the bottom of my box...
If I could gather up all the smiles, laughs, memories
and pride that you've brought me through the years
and give them back to you, I would.

that card was dated june 17, 1996.
and sadly, on this day, thirteen years ago, she left this earth.
i'm glad that today is a beautiful fall day, full of sunshine and time with my great guys. i know that she would've loved to have known them.
this card, in particular, is absolutely perfect because it is a typical "mom" card. she would give these "just because" cards all the time growing up.
i know this because i also have william's box of cards.
