cape, water, and drywall

when it rains, it pours. last friday's rain brought us a leak in the basement. it's where we're working too! at times i couldn't tell if it was a river, a creek, or a slight trickle... at least we don't have carpet down yet!
thankfully, tom and the boys worked outside all day on saturday, building a trench in the backyard to help relieve the water flow.

this week has also brought lots of work from everyone...each day that passes draws us closer to dad's arrival. they should be mudding tonight and painting by this weekend! the sink and door have been purchased for the bathroom. i've been mulling ideas about a wooden frame for the bathroom mirror...not trim, but actual logs cut, stained and varnished...we'll see...

i've been looking at so many green and brown paint samples i think my eyes are seeing camo everywhere! and there is talk of hanging sticks or netting...i'm just trying to figure out where to place all of their swimming ribbons and baseball and soccer trophies.

sam is really starting to get excited... it makes me happy to see how excited he is about the idea of a new room for them. louie is still very concerned about where they will sleep. jack has been one step behind his brothers at bedtime this week, so i think we may be moving three beds downstairs instead of two... i don't know if i'm ready for that... jack's my baby. i love to watch him learn new things each day and grow into his own person, but it's just another big transition at this time. he has even figured out how to unzip his flannel pjs...

oh, i almost forgot...cape! dad's name was drawing closer to the list on the va home in cape, so they called wanting to know if we were still interested when a bed became available. it was a strange message...the kind of message when you're like now who called and what did they want because they spoke so fast. and i got the lovely pleasure of calling them back to say that we decline the invitation. i've had to do this twice and each time i have a huge knot in my stomach by the end of the phone call.
eventually, i'm hoping this will be easier because we placed his name on every va home waiting list in the state of missouri! we'll have to see who calls next..

  2. Thank you, Lisa for your new post. The pictures are exciting and I am sure the boys will enjoy their new space as well as having their Grandpa (and I know that's not what they call him but I don't remember their name for him)with them - and he will enjoy watching the boys grow. Have faith, Lisa. All will be well - I'm so very proud of you! What a blessing this blog is and such an encouragement for all of us to hold our heads high and persevere in the toughest of times. Thank you for being such a beautiful inspiration!
