two

the dixie chicks song, "godspeed" is running through my head
as i'm writing this post.

Dragon tales and the "water is wide"
Pirate's sail and lost boys fly
Fish bite moonbeams every night
And I love you

jack is two.
hooray!

The rocket racer's all tuckered out
Superman's in pajamas on the couch
Goodnight moon, will find the mouse
And I love you

i think everyone in our family was more excited than jack when he woke up, each one of us said, "happy birthday!" i don't think he knew what that meant, but by the end of the day, he got the idea!

he realized that his favorites were for dinner...hot dogs and cheesy noodles!

louie sporting the cantaloupe smile

it was so hard to hold the boys off on presents...they wanted jack to open his gifts asap!

on a side note, we had our annual family pig roast this weekend. we experienced all of the highs and lows with the festivities! and there was a lot of "remember the year we..." comments (which are my favorites). so needless to say, jack's birthday gifts were purchased yesterday afternoon and his cake...that's a story for later in the blog. but, if you see the smoke coming out of our house right now, it's just the self cleaning oven.

anyway, back to the gifts! this was his year! this was the year that jack realized that everything wrapped in the colorful paper was his...all his!

jack loves to open a gift and play with it before moving on.
he did this on christmas morning too!

God bless mommy and match box cars
God bless dad and thanks for the stars
God hears "Amen," wherever we are
And I love you

it drives his brothers crazy.

but eventually, they learn that jack has his own process for opening gifts and they adjust.

as any good party flows, it was cake time!

it is supposed to be a basketball if you're wondering

look at that face!

he realized that everyone was singing to him. his brothers and dad helped blow the candles out!

from the top, it doesn't look too bad...

so the cake and i had a bit of trouble yesterday...and it ended up looking more like a deflated basketball than a round, bouncy ball. but, looks aren't everything because it tasted awesome. i tried making it in my pampered chef batter bowl. i still haven't figured out where i went wrong.

but it doesn't matter that jack's gifts were purchased yesterday afternoon or that his cake was lumpy or that we all kind of threw dinner together. what matters is that jack is two. and he had a great day.

on another side note, i don't think we can call him baby jack anymore...and that puts a little lump in my throat.

Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings
Godspeed

Sweet dreams

  1. Lisa, what a beautiful tribute to Jack's second birthday. I was so touched by your words, the pictures, and the little snippets of a song inbetween. Keep writing!
