they actually enjoy a wide variety of sports. sam is currently in the middle of three seasons at once...baseball, swim team, and football! the kid is basically doing two-a-days... swimming in the morning and football mini camp in the evenings! he lays his head down at night and is usually asleep before i can say "goodnight".
thus, i am a sports momma.
until saturday, i thought every parent with a child participating in a sport was the same way. our family is like a mini village...everyone helps everyone when they need it. so, it could be an aunt picking up or dropping off at swim practice or grandma and grandpa picking up from baseball practice or dad on the field doing drills at football.
when sam was younger, i felt that i needed to stay during the entire practice. then i realized that i really don't....plus, the added joy of trying to wrangle a toddler when there is not a playground for an hour is just more joy than i can handle. the only thing more difficult is keeping louie out of the creek at the brentwood ball fields.
on saturday, louie had a game on one field at 9am and sam had a game at another field and needed to be there by 9:30. so we practiced the divide and conquer method...tom took louie...and helped on the field :) sam, jack and i ventured to the park...i let sam get out and get ready for his game while jack (who feel asleep on the way to the field...literally in 5 minutes!) waited in the car. i watched everyone from both teams arrive and then i saw it... one of the kids being dropped off. his mom walked him to the steps gave him a kiss on the forehead, waved and was gone. it broke my heart to watch because it's a game.
i know i work a lot. tom and i both have crazy schedules. but it's a game. it's the time when all of their hours of playing catch or going to the batting cages with their dad, grandpa and uncle pays off. during the game your kid could get the game winning hit or make an awesome play.
in the years to come, i'm sure i'll get to enjoy plenty of games and meets! sam informed me last night that swimming and football are his sports! and louie has decided that this maybe his last year of soccer because (in his words) "i like to tackle!"
i think i may need to invest in one of those bleacher mats...
